Last blog

This is the last blog im going to write. See Miss.Morrel when I came back to Alaska I didnt want to go back to school or do anything.. I think you noticed when you gave me the assignments I was missing and I really didnt do any of them.! Then as the days past and we got new projects I decided and thought bought it. It was like what the heck i got to do this i got to finish school even if i missed alot. Either way I got the hang of the camera and the assignments you gave us, It was hard for me because I didnt know everryone in class to be able to ask questions . This year there was alot of things going through mi mind that wouldnt let me pay attention in class or do mi work. Thats why I didnt pass this class with a good grade.. Either way everything we did in clas like food micro and black & white were fun!!!!
Sorry i didnt make it to school today. Missed critic hope i dod good though. It was nice having your class Miss.Morrel.

B&W

I enjoyed working with black and white pictures. It was fun working with the light even though it was kind of difficult to get the right balance of light and dark. Overall this class has been a great learning experience.

I had a lot of fun with this assignment, but I am so sad that this semester is over!
I've learned so much and had such a great time in this class.
Hopefully I can get into it again next year!

This week doing black & white was a bit harder than I thought. Trying to get the lighting right was hard, even though I used the light meter it seemed that the picture would sometimes come out too light but at the end i got some good photos. Cant wait till the critique this Thursday and our last day.

Playing in the rain

Last Friday, we decided to take advantage of the rain puddles. Not very many of my shots turned out well. It's hard to capture a good shot of a moving subject. You really have to pay attention to what you're doing. These aren't the ones I'm turning in (they're secret until Thursday). These are just the ones with little imperfections.

The World in Black and White

Okay, so I would have to say black and white is my favorite project so far. Even better than landscape. I love color, but I think now it can almost look garish in some photos; having worked more with black and white, I can really appreciate the shapes and patterns brought out by it that simply aren't there in color. Also, the slightly antique quality it brings to photos, like an old TV set, appeals to me. I had the BEST time jumping around in puddles on Friday!! We should do it again (Lauren!!)! :) Happy last week of school, everybody!

BLACK AND WHITE

So this week we have been taking pictures in black and white.which to me are fun.Hopefuly i get the rest of my pictures this week!! Its sad that this is our last assignment together! Eitherway atleast it was a fun proyect to do.

Achromatic Photo Fun

Achromatic = without color, monochrome = one color

After trying to shoot the city again three days ago, I came to understand why there's such an emphasis on contrast in black and white photos. The scene was plenty pretty in color, but without color it came through in merging shades of gray, with the sky as a flat pane. Yesterday, there were some clouds above the scene, making the sky a much more dynamic part of the whole. That, and shooting the sun reflecting off the water is a PAIN when trying to balance that with the fore/backgrounds.

- Chris
we've had a whole week of shooting now and I still have not taken any quality shots. Thankfully we have the weekend to shoot. Hopefully I can take some good shots this Saturday.

-Eric

Black & White

This week taking black & white photos was exciting i personally love taking black and white pictures because i think you can see details you wouldn't see in color. I am excited to see everybody's photos next week in the critique and see the different techniques they used.

I have got most of my black and white photos.
I had a lot of fun taking these ones. I'm going to miss this class its so sad its our last assignment together!Today I'm going to take pictures outside with Lauren.I'm hoping to find rain droplets or wet puddles and capture them in black and white.
I wonder if some of our photo assignments will be the same next year?

Lauren.....black&white...and limitations

Photography is nearing a close and I have to say, it's kind of a bummer. But, I am really hoping to get into photography two and make it work with my schedule. Black and white is a kind of difficult. Not in the sense of application but in choosing subjects. The projects and the "limitations" are so broad that it's hard to pick something to shoot. But with all this freedom...might as well enjoy it. So, I'm looking forward to getting good shots and seeing everyone else's. Everything will be beautiful!!

Black And White Project

So over this weekend I got a lot of photos! And personally I believe I actually got quite a bit good black and white photos, so now I am totally excited for our next crit. Though my only problem with this project is the lighting. It is so hard to get the perfect lighting, but it is fun to mess with the lighting because sometimes a photo looks better darker, but not too dark where you can't see anything. The one thing I really like about this project is that we can shoot anything we want pretty much. Hope you guys are having as much fun with this project as much as I am!
~Tia'Rashell

See how far we've come...

I just checked out the senior portfolios. It's amazing to look back at all of the photos from way back in January. Just thinking about the first assignments like aperture and shutter speed really make me realize how far I've come as a photographer. I went from knowing absolutely nothing about cameras (except how to press that little take-a-picture- button) to using a top of the line digital SLR in manual mode. Now, thinking back, I can't imagine how those first assignments could've been so difficult. Especially since I know that just a few months later I'm applying those basic techniques to all of my photos. This class has certainly been the most worth while of all of the classes I've taken. Thank you Miss Morell!

kickin it at westchester
As much as I wanted to get started on our black and white project, I did not get a lot of shooting done last week. Hopefully I can get some good shoots this week and experiment with what kind of shots work for me in black and white.

Black and White

I've yet to attempt any black and white pictures, but I'm excited to try. If the weather goes my way this week, I should be able to get a nice black and white landscape shot...hopefully

Liliana

This week has been awesome, going to the lagoon was a great idea like a little goodbye picnic for the seniors, I really enjoyed it and had lots of fun. I am looking forward to the black & white project and using the tips we got.

Sweet!

I think I have several ideas for this black and white project. Though I have a feeling that I will have to get quite a bit of shots because this project probably won't be easy for me. But I know it will be a lot of fun! Hopefully everyone gets a lot of good shots for this project also. So good luck everyone!

Anyway, don't forget to bring something for the picnic tomorrow! I have drinks handled! =]

~Tia'Rashell

Endings... And beginnings!

Wow... I can't believe in three days the seniors will be gone. That is just insanity! How can the year be over already?! I'm really going to miss you all, regardless of how much I'm looking forward to summer! I hope you all have amazing adventures in the real world and have a wonderful college experience... And come back and visit us!!
I'm doing some traveling in June, first to a little fishing town in Wisconsin and then to DC. Both should provide fabulous -- though very contrasting -- photo opportunities, so I'm most certainly bringing my camera!! Hopefully I'll be able to get to the bottom of my problem with focusing. I can't wait for your class next year, Miss Morrell -- Good luck, everybody, love you all!!!

May 5, 2009

I hope it's as sunny as it has been tomorrow for the field trip. I'm going to bring my camera once we go so I can take a lot of pictures. Since we're experimenting with black and white photos I think I'm going to take pictures of the clouds and flowers.
I'm planning to bring popsicles, or maybe juice :]

-Bethany

Last project and seniors last week...

I'm pretty excited about doing black and white, especially since it just so happens that all of my favorite pictures from past assignments are black and white. I think it really emphasizes lighting and the photo becomes more about composition than just appealing colors.
I'm sad the seniors are leaving. Even though I'm taking Photo II next year it won't be the same without them. Guys, we're like the original photo-students.

~Kalie

Lauren....learning.....and the end of the year

Theses are just some pictures I took at a baby shower a few weeks ago. So, as we near the end of the year....it's kind of crazy to look back and see how much we've learned. I honestly know SO much more about camera's and photography than when I started. Before this class photography was just the click of a button getting an occasional lucky shot. But now I understand the amazing complexity and work that goes into getting a amazing shot. I remember there was so much that Ms. Morell had planned as far as projects, and we didn't get to all of them. But everything we did was pretty awesome. I have LOVED this class.

I was driving with some friends the other day and it was overcast. So I started shooting the sun. It turned the light posts black. I thought it was kind of interesting how you totally lose your depth perception.

Birthdays and approaching summer!

May 1st already... You know what that means, of course! It's officially spring!!! (Screw March 21st, maybe in Florida). I am so excited! I love this time of year, when school starts wrapping up and the rest of the world is all renewed... It's absolutely magical, and a great time for photos!
What a wonderful day for a milestone, Miss Morell! Happy, happy birthday, I love you!!!
~Lillian

Almost over

Ahhh it's sunny, I'm sure you younger folks will get some nice pictures out there. I think I'm going to steel my camera, don't tell miss Morell. I kinda dig the whole photo thing so I might just have to save up and buy my own.

Feelin' good

I am pretty happy that we got to finish our display case. We all worked really hard to get it done and it ended up looking FANTASTIC! Great job to everyone and I hope that the picnic idea will follow through!

-Meredith

Happy Birthday Miss Morell!!

Today is Miss Morell's birthday :) (I dare not ask how old she is) but the sun is shining and I can't wait for our new assignment next week! I've found some flowers outside in a small secret place and im planning to make them my new subject for the new assignment. I'm so happy that the sun is out and summer is always here. The best photography would probably be shooting something that I love.

-Bethany

O' Malley Hike

I like this one because of the three reflections.

Ike the wonder dog.

Sleeping lady sleeps all night.

Last night i went hiking to little O'Malley, we went out from house at 7 and came back at 11, it was really tough hike, with 4 feet of snow and muddy track. I took a lot of pictures but I already uploaded 'em to my computer, I'll upload 'em after school today.

-Muhammad Hanif--
I really loved the front case. I like walking by it with my friends and pointing out the photos every time we pass by. I'm kinda bummed it's the last week of class I really enjoy using the camera and I dont have one like it so its really gonna suck going back to my parents non-manual Kodak easyshare camera.

~~Austin

Birthdays!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MS. MORELL! You are awesome and I have learned SO much from you. This day is completely GORGEOUS and perfect day to celebrate :)
HAPPY
HAPPY
HAPPY
BIRTHDAY!!

Lauren
This week was really exciting, I loved how the printed pictures came out so colorful and bright I loved it. I also think that the photography case is awesome!!! It looks beautiful I have herd positive comments from people saying they like the pictures and I bit people are going to want to take photography next year.
-Liliana
The display cases are magnificent, mounting was a little annoying (getting everything aligned juuuussssssst right), and everyone's photos look marvelous. The front case practically screams for attention, and most every time I'm walking down that side of the school, someone's listening. I've yet to see the library case, but I can only imagine the attention it's commanding right now.

- Chris
I really enjoyed learning how to mount pictures this week. Even after three tries... Also, thank you to all the kids who helped set up the display case in the hall. It looks really well done. I think the library display case looks really good as well and have heard good things about all of our pictures.

Eric

The Front Case Looks Great!

I'm so happy everyone helped out with the case, I think it looks so wonderful. All the pictures seemed to connect so that's also nice. Almost every time I pass the case (which is a lot) I always hear people say how cool the pictures look. Which I find to be totally awesome! So nice job everyone and have a nice, bright weekend!
