Rule of Thirds

I used this photo for my fast shutter speed assignment. I thought it was a decent shot for fast shutter speed but was wondering what your opinions were regarding the rule of thirds. I know we haven't talked about it much in class and will learn more on Monday, but I was under the impression that the focus of the picture is supposed to be on the left or right side of the photo. The reason I wanted to get a second opinion about this photo regarding the rule of thirds is because I can not see how the picture would improve by moving the focus (electric light) to any one side of the picture. Any thoughts would help,
