Rule of Thirds Pt. 2

Regarding the Rule of Thirds, I just had a quick question about where the points of interest are after you have divided the picture into thirds. For example, when you portray the focus of the picture, should the points of interest be centered on the whole lines dividing the picture into thirds, or more so on the four points of intersections? Or maybe both? I think the answer is probably to focus on the points of intersection, but any clarification on this matter would help.

  1. Eric, good questions, easy fix.
Refer back to your notes from our lecture on the Rule of Thirds. There you should fine TWO drawings: One referring to the points of intersection, one option; and one with lines or a grid, referring to placing it within these boundaries, another option. You want to ultimately place your subject off-center, in one of these spots, or if you really want to emphasize something very specific, like someone's eye (or the bee's eye in the class example) you frame the photo so that is in on of the intersecting points.
