I was really impressed with today's presentation. I always liked black and white because of how well it displays light and it's ability to have a wide range of tones. When photos are in color they can be a little overwhelming because there is so much more going on and it's more difficult to really appreciate how a photo was thought out and put together. I also like that black and white can create more contrast in a photo because the focus goes to size, placement, and texture versus vibrancy or just color contrast. I really believe Mr. Johnson put it perfectly when he said "less is more".
Also, until today, I hadn't thought of placing pictures side by side the way Mr. Johnson did. I'd seen it done but not so much with respect to the photos' composition. Seeing two things completely unrelated and yet having similar composition (which makes them related) is really amazing and I like to look for parallels between two photos.
