Red Eye Glare

I was looking at some family pictures over the weekend and noticed that in a lot of the photos the eyes of the people turned red. I see this a lot in photos and was wondering what causes it and how it could be fixed. Any feedback would be appreciated,

  1. I know on our cameras there's an option you can use that eliminates red eye. You can turn it on by selecting it in the menu.

  2. Eric,

Red-eye occurs as a result of the camera flash refracting off parts of the inner eye, as the pupil can't shut in time for the flash to hit it. Two ways to help alleviate the effect are to take the shots in areas with more ambient light, and to shoot the subject so the flash hits their eye at an oblique angle.

  3. Thanks for the quesrtion Eric! I think you an I figured it out with the cameras settings. For the ones in the album, you can always scan them in and take out the red-eye in a program like Photoshop.
