Lauren...Matt...and Black&White

If you could branch out and do something new, it could be beautiful. This was so evident during Matt's presentation. His work was this series of chances and trying new things and switching techniques and it worked- it was cool. Me personally, I LOVE color. Color is life. It's rich and vibrant and lucious and it's beautiful to me. But black and white has this whole new kind of beauty. When you strip away what normally makes something beautiful- rick reds, bright oranges, deep purples it forces you to see the beauty so often missed in colors. The small details like contrast and shadows and shapes. Its a whole new kind of lovely. Looking at black and white, it's just so raw and so real. I also enjoyed how he didn't always have an explanation. For me as an artist I think that I worry to much about having a reason, an inspiration for everything. But there was something freeing, I guess, in hearing someone present their work and not always have some underlying story. I think that's what makes it art. Art doesn't always have to be explained and it doesn't have to have an inspiration. That's why its beautiful.
